Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Hobart

Arrive into the Apple Isle and collect your rental car* at Hobart Airport. Drive to your waterfront hotel with the rest of the day to relax or explore the surrounds.

Day 2: Hobart

Embark on a full-day tour of magnificent Hobart. Beginning at the waterfront, your guide will take you on an historical journey back to the 1820s, sharing stories of Old Wharf immigrants and convicts. Visit historic Battery Point, before wandering around the exquisite Botanical Gardens learning all about its extensive collection of international and native plants. Dine at a local restaurant before continuing to the seaside town of Kettering.

This afternoon, revel in an A&K-exclusive visit to the Raptor Refuge. Be invited into the bird care and exercise areas for an intimate encounter with the winged patients. Observe behind-the-scenes procedures, witness the Peregrine Falcon whizzing around the flight tunnel, and spot wedge-tailed eagles in the flight aviary. Leave with a greater understanding of the wild beauty and strength of Australia’s greatest birds.

Day 3: Hobart

Today is at leisure to explore the sites around Hobart. A fast ferry can take you to visit MONA, the breathtaking and utterly brilliant Museum of Old and New Art, or you may choose to head to the 1,271 metre summit of Mt Wellington for a stunning view over the city. Further afield you’ll find the UNESCO World Heritage site of Port Arthur, Bruny Island or the tranquil Huon Valley.

For a day spent on the water, savour a unique full-day cruise from Hobart, down the famous Derwent River into the sheltered waters of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Enjoy freshly shucked oysters, premium rock lobster and see your guide dive for abalone and sea urchin. Observe your catch being turned into a delicious seafood feast accompanied by gourmet local produce and Tasmanian wines (additional cost).

Day 4: Hobart – Freycinet National Park

Leave the city behind and drive up the East Coast to the majestic mountains, azure bays and white beaches of Freycinet National Park. Settle into luxury boutique lodge Saffire Freycinet and soak up mesmerising views of the Hazards over Great Oyster Bay. Tonight, dine at Palate: possibly Tasmania’s most exclusive restaurant.

Days 5 - 6: Freycinet National Park

Enjoy two days at leisure to explore the coastal reserve your way. Perhaps take a guided walk to stunning Wineglass Bay with a gourmet picnic thrown in. Keen anglers may enjoy a fishing expedition, or for something active try kayaking or mountain biking. Wine lovers can savour private tastings at Craigie Knowe Vineyard or tour a local oyster farm before tasting the fresh bounty. For something more relaxing, take time out for a complimentary spa treatment or visit Saffire’s open-range Tasmanian Devil enclosure. For the ultimate adventure, head out on a gourmet quad bike expedition; or join a Saffire cruise for close-up interactions with soaring sea birds, playful marine mammals and a diversity of life on Tasmania's temperate reefs (additional cost).
