Letter from Hong Kong: Hokkaido: A Land for All Seasons

White in winter under a blanket of snow,
In spring a sea of blossoms wherever you go,
Summer is green with flowers of all hue,
Autumn leaves a fiery red for you.
(Hokkaido, a poem)

Spring is in the air and for Japan, time to “think pink”. Yes, Hanami has arrived; the annual “viewing of the flowers” which, of course, means the delicate cherry blossom, so beloved by the Japanese.

One of the most frequently asked questions we receive is “Where is the best place to see cherry blossoms away from the crowds?” When asked I always think of Hokkaido, Japan’s nature wonderland, most northern of her four main islands.

So, I thought, what better time for a newsletter on Hokkaido and not just cherry blossoms. I call it, “The Land for All Seasons” for Hokkaido is special in each season of the year. So join me on this newsletter journey to Hokkaido discovering its highlights winter, spring, summer or fall … and remember, all you have to do is call and we’ll be here to introduce you to the wonderful world of Hokkaido.

Regards,

Katharine Fok
