Day 1 - Welcome to Colonia del Sacramento!
Take a day trip to the picturesque town of Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay, a UNESCO World Heritage site just across the Río de la Plata (cross the river by hydrofoil, 1 hour and 15-minute trip). Be charmed by its old world ambience as you explore its colonial history, lush gardens, and peaceful, cobbled streets.
After being picked up from your hotel, head to the ferry terminal for the hour-long cruise to Colonia. Disembark to begin your walking tour of the pedestrian-only historic center, following your guide through the city gate and along cobblestone streets built by the Portuguese in the 17th century. Stroll across the tree-lined Plaza Mayor to admire 18th-century stone buildings and the refurbished Basílica del Santísimo Sacramento.
Departure towards Carmelo, located approx. 80 km from Colonia.
Begin the tour at Sere Beach, with its marine and a fauna reserve. Afterwards cross the oldest swing bridge in the country, located above Las Vacas creek. Along Rambla de los Constituyentes promenade, go to the Plaza Artigas and observe the monument in recognition of the founding of the city, the historic Temple of Carmen and the parish archives.
With better knowledge of theis region’s rich history, visit its first winery, and taste their wine, and then visit their second winery. The visit starts with a guided tour of the place, followed by a tasting activity, and a 3-course lunch. After which we will head back for Colonia Del Sacramento.
