New Experience: Jordan's Underwater Military Museum
At the end of July 2019, Jordan’s first underwater military museum was unveiled. A collection of 19 military vehicles, such as tanks and helicopters were dropped 28 meters (92 feet) under the sea at a coral reef off the coast of Aqaba. Plenty of people already see this reef in the Red Sea as a colorful and exciting place to dive down to, but now they have the added thrill of coming across these decommissioned military vehicles. For those who don’t wish to dive, you can also snorkel or even view the museum from a glass-bottomed boat.
Cable Cars in Ajloun
To the north of Amman, through beautiful pine forests and olive groves, you find the city of Ajloun. It is here where Hadrian stayed over the winter of AD 129-30 and built an arch outside of the town, leaving its sides open for future city walls to come out and meet it. The main attraction here is the Hilltop Castle or Qalaat Errabadh which offers splendid views onto the Jordan Valley.
Currently, the only way to get up to the castle is either on foot (a strenuous three kilometers up hill) or by car. However, as of 2019 that is set to change with the construction of a brand-new cable car. The cable car will consist of 40 cars, each carrying up to eight people and will offer exclusive views of the castle.
It is hoped that the introduction of this project will bring even more tourists to the area to connect the restaurants, hotels and local markets. Around 250,000 tourists visited Ajloun in 2018 and that is predicted to double once the cable car is in place.
We will keep you posted on the progress and let you know once the cable car is open to the public. Please get in touch if you’d like to include Ajloun Castle in your guest’s itinerary.
