Day 1 - Arrive Shanghai

Arrive today into Shanghai where, after clearing arrival formalities, you are met and transferred to your hotel.

The Huangpu River divides the city into east (Pudong) and west (Puxi) and with it equal parts historic (Puxi) and futuristic (Pudong) – this is the perfect symbol of what Shanghai is; a city that built from its past to power to its future.

Day 2 - Shanghai

Start the day the Shanghai way with a Tai Chi class on the Bund, the historic promenade that looks from Puxi over to the dazzling buildings in Pudong.  Led by a resident Tai Chi master this ancient school of martial arts will set your “qi” in harmony ready to take on the day.

The balance of the morning enjoy a Shanghai orientation led by a historian and Shanghai specialist. You will explore the city through visits to some of its most distinctive districts:  the former French Concession, the International Settlement, and the original Chinese city.   Enriched by anecdotes about the city’s notorious past the orientation will bring to colourful life the city once called, “the Paris of the East”.

Following lunch meet with a former curator and enjoy a behind the scenes tour of the Shanghai Museum said to be one of the world’s top five museums of Chinese art and antiquities. 

This evening, following dinner, enjoy a dazzling display of spectacular movement and agility when you attend the Shanghai Acrobatics Circus, the world’s finest acrobatics troupe.

Day 3 - Shanghai - Zhujiajiao - Shanghai

Spend the morning in another time and another place when you visit Zhujiajiao a traditional “Shui Xiang” or water town that that has a history of more than 500 years.  Just 45 minutes from Shanghai it is a world apart in atmosphere.  With more than 1,000 structures – bridges, temples, houses and more – dating to the Ming (1368 – 1644) and Qing (1644 – 1911) dynasties, recalls a China of another era.  Led by a resident guide experience the daily rhythms of life: the bustling market area, the local city temple, the parade boats plying the canals and the welcome hospitality of the residents.

Return to Shanghai for lunch and this afternoon take it all in with a visit to the Shanghai Tower, the world’s second tallest building at 632 metres (2,073 feet).  Ride the world’s second fastest elevator to the observation deck which, at 562 metres (1,843 feet) is the highest platform on earth affording visitors sweeping views of Shanghai and beyond.

This evening enjoy a sunset cruise on the Huangpu River taking in the dazzling night lights that illuminate the evening sky before celebrating your Shanghai interlude over dinner at the exclusive Private Club One in the city’s Xintiandi District.

Day 4 - Depart Shanghai

Today meet your guide and transfer to the Long Yang Road Maglev Train Station where you board the world’s fastest train to airport link – the Maglev Train.  Reaching a top speed of 430 kilometres per hour (265 mph) the train works on energy generated by opposing magnetic force.  The trip to the airport takes less than 8 minutes.

On arrival at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport you will be assisted with the check-in for your departure flight.
