Day 6 - Moremi Game Reserve

Your day is at leisure to view and experience some of the AKP projects available.

In 2015, AKP played a vital role in the reintroduction of a significant number of both Black and White rhinos into northern Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve. A monitoring project followed in October 2017 with the purchase of a converted and dedicated Landcruiser and employing two full time conservation officers, Kandu and Olly, who have been tasked with monitoring the reintroduced rhino population. Kandu and Olly have been trained by the Botswana Anti-Poaching Unit who have a combined wealth of experience to share with our team that will result in a strong long-term collaboration between our AKP team and Rhino Conservation Botswana. Kandu and Olly drive out daily and track the rhinos and collect the needed data which is shared with government authorities through a non-partisan NGO, Rhino Conservation Botswana. The data is critical as it informs decision makers whether the project is successful and if so how many more of which rhino species to further reintroduce, where and when.

AKP Boma Lunch

Enjoy a bush lunch at the boma where the reintroduced rhino’s were kept before introduction into the wild. Kandu and / or Olly will join guests for lunch as they share their stories about AKP’s efforts AKP to protect these endangered species and the rhino relocation and monitoring program. Available to a minimum of two and maximum of six guests. (Weather dependent).

Please note: The boma area where the rhinos are kept before reintroduction into the wild will be used as and when additional rhinos are relocated. As this is only temporary housing for the rhinos we can’t guarantee that there will be rhinos present when visiting the boma.
