COVID-19 Protocols & Entry Requirements

International Travel Status

Open – Ecuador reopened its borders to international travel on June 1st, 2020.

Access into Ecuador

Entry into the country is allowed by air travel into both international airports, Quito (UIO) and Guayaquil (GYE). While travelers from most parts of the world may enter on the below requirements. Indian nationals are required to quarantine for 10 days.

Entry Requirements

  • Travelers over 3 years of age must present a vaccination certificate with a QR code, allowing official confirmation or a full COVID-19 vaccination card, with the last dose received at least 14 days prior to arrival in Ecuador. Travelers may alternatively enter on a negative RT-PCR test result, taken no more than 72 hours prior to flying to Ecuador.  Passengers under 3 years of age are exempt from the these requirements.
  • All travelers must complete and present this form, when boarding the plane for their journey to Ecuador.
  • Travelers who have had COVID-19 over one month before their arrival to Ecuador, and whose results are still positive, will be allowed in the country, as long as they do not have any symptoms, and after presenting a medical certification, indicating that they are fully recovered and in good health condition. This certification must have been issued in the traveler's country of residence. 

**The above requirements are the same for both mainland Ecuador and Galapagos.

  • Please note that all travelers will still be scanned for fever and/or other COVID-related symptoms, and they may be subject to a rapid antigen test.
  • Wearing face masks in public places and on board vehicles is mandatory.
  • Screenings are performed when entering most places. This includes temperature checks, hand sanitizing and keeping a 2-meter (6 feet) physical distance.

COVID-19 Testing

PCR testing is offered in Quito and Guayaquil, on the following schedules and conditions:

Quito
If the sample is taken between 08:00 and 10:00. The results will be delivered on the same day, after 16:00. On the other hand, if the samples are taken between 10:01- 16:00, the results will be delivered in 24 hours. The price per PCR sample is USD 90.

Schedules are:
Mondays to Fridays: 08:00 - 16:00
Saturdays: 08:00 - noon
Sundays: 08:00 - noon

Remember:

  • Rate applies if the test is taken at the laboratory.
  • Additional charges apply if:

- The test is taken at the local hotel
- If the test is taken out of business hours
- If the test is taken somewhere out of Quito (haciendas or lodges)

Guayaquil
The price per PCR sample is USD 115, and it will be taken and delivered as follows:

  • If the test is taken on the Monday to Friday, from 08:00 - 14:00 schedule, the results will be delivered on the same day, after 18:00.
  • If the test is taken on Saturday, from 08:00 - noon schedule, the results will be delivered on the same day, after 18:00.
  • If the test is taken on Sunday, from 08:00 - noon schedule, the results will be delivered the next Monday, after18:00.

Remember:

  • Rate applies if the test is taken at the laboratory.
  • Additional charges apply if the test is taken at the local hotel.
