Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Rome

Meet and greet upon arrival into Rome Fiumicino Airport/Railway Station, then you are privately transferred to your luxury, centrally located hotel in Rome.

Overnight: Hotel de la Ville

Day 2 - Imperial Rome

Your tour today leaves you in awe as your guide shows you the heart of the Roman Empire. Marvel at the imposing Colosseum, commissioned by Emperor Vespasian. The stadium accommodated up to 50,000 spectators who came to view the gladiatorial battles that sometimes lasted up to one hundred days! Adjacent is the Arch of Constantine; dating from AD 315, it is a forerunner to many other triumphal arches around the world.

Next, discover the excavations of the vast Roman Forum, where remains of temples, streetscapes and palaces can be appreciated up close. Your guide helps brings to life the atmosphere of Rome's pulsating heart and also explains the other nearby Emperor Forums: those of Trajan, Augustus and Caesar. Finally, discover the Palatine Hill, inhabited since the ninth century BC; archaeologists believe this to be the place where Romulus, legendary founder of Rome, lived.

Overnight: Hotel de la Ville

Meal Plan: B

Day 3 - Vatican City

Established by the Lateran Treaty in 1929, the Vatican City is the smallest independent state in the world. Cross the Tiber River into this awe-inspiring place and discover the Vatican Museums. Part of the Papal Residence, the museums are estimated to contain 1,400 rooms, chapels and galleries! Witness the extraordinarily rich collection of precious arts, maps, sculptures and antiquities, and marvel at its most breath-taking masterpiece, Michelangelo's frescoed ceiling, which famously adorns the Sistine Chapel. Afterwards, head to the centre of the Vatican, to the vast Basilica of St Peter. The present cathedral is a beautiful mix of Renaissance and Baroque architecture, formed under the hands of masters such as Michelangelo. Take in its stunning interior, an elaborate and detailed display of marble, mosaic, gilt and bronze

On the way back to your hotel you stop for a brief visit at the fortress of Castel Sant’Angelo. Built around 123 BC as the tomb for Emperor Hadrian and his family, Castel Sant'Angelo had an unusual destiny in the historic-artistic panorama of the capital. Castel Sant'Angelo has had many incarnations: from funerary monument to outpost, from obscure and terrible prison to beautiful Renaissance dwelling.
