Day 2 - Nairobi - Lewa Downs

After a welcome talk & breakfast, meet your representative in the lobby and transfer to Wilson Airport for your flight to Lewa Downs Conservancy.

Lewa Downs is a family owned 60,000 acre game reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the foothills of Mount Kenya. Black and white rhino, introduced here in the early eighties in a bid to provide sanctuary, thrive here and are relocated to other parks in Kenya. All three of the big cats, up to 200 elephant, Greater Kudu and the graceful gerenuk antelope with its elegant neck which stands on its long hind legs to browse on shrubs and trees, are part of the unique experience that is Lewa. As an activity-based reserve, it lends unique bush experiences that are restricted in national parks: you can ride horseback alongside herds of giraffe, zebra and antelope, take a night game drive, walk with armed rangers, or enjoy a camel ride to a bush breakfast.

In the afternoon, join your instructor for a yoga, pranayama & meditation class.

Day 5 - Fly to Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast you bid Lewa Conservancy goodbye and fly to the Masai Mara National Reserve where you arrive in time for lunch. After settling in enjoy your first yoga session in the Masai Mara.

The Masai Mara plays host to the most spectacular array of wildlife. 1,510 square kilometers (583 square miles) of broad biscuit-colored savannah sprawls as home to huge numbers of birds (almost 600 species) and animals and is adjacent to the enormous expanse of the Serengeti; the two make up the most diverse ecosystem on the continent.

The word 'mara' comes from the local dialect, Maa, as spoken by the Maasai and means 'spotted', certainly the vast grasslands here are dotted by the shadows of small clouds which scud across a huge sky above. Every year this special place witnesses the most incredible animal phenomenon on the planet - the wildebeest migration. The mass of plains game moving north from the Serengeti in search of fresh pasture returning south around October, a heaving line of grunting, snorting life that stretches for miles. At the Mara River they mass together nervously on the banks before plunging onwards; their pursuit of food overwhelming their fear of the crocodiles that lie in wait for the annual feast. This incredible spectacle involves the movement of over a million wildebeest and their fellow travelers, half a million Thomson's gazelle, half a million zebra as well as smaller herds of topi and eland all operating on the principle of safety in numbers. They are followed, inevitably, by predators, primarily lions and hyena.

Day 6 – 8 Yoga and Game drives

Awake to your early morning yoga sessions followed by a mid-morning game drive and lunch. In the afternoon you have a talk on philosophy and have the option to indulge in some extra treatments before your afternoon yoga session.

Walking along the edge of the Olooloo Escarpment is a great way to explore the Mara as you take in the beauty of its landscape. Experienced guides point out small wonders that you would have missed and regale you with interesting facts about the different plants and other fascinating stories about the Maasai culture.

Check out the organic garden where all the fresh produce that go into preparing all the delicious meals are grown. You are welcome to pick the ingredients that go into the day’s lunch or dinner.
